Ayza Wine & Chocolate Bar

I have been frequenting Ayza Wine and Chocolate Bar for the past two years and there are so many reasons why I love it. Outdoor (heated in the winter) seating all year round ? Check. Reasonable prices? Check. Delicious food? Check. Great for both a romantic date night or a girls night out? Check. Close to Penn Station for all my commuter buddies? Check Check Check!

I came here a couple of nights ago with a girlfriend to celebrate the big engagement. We started of with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc for me and a Lambrusco for her. They immediately brought out a complementary basket of olive tapenade and assorted breads. Tapenade is spread consisting of puréed or finely chopped olives, capers, anchovies and olive oil. This particular one was a bit too salty for my liking!

The three appetizers we ordered were all equally delicious. Ayza definitely knows how to do great tapas style dishes to compliment their extensive wine list. We ordered the Wild Mushroom Pita Tart with fresh mozzarella, arugula, truffle drizzle and shaved parmigiano, an Atlantic Smoked Salmon Tartine with cream cheese, red cabbage, chives & tarragon, and the Crispy Baby Shrimp Dumplings with garlic chili sauce and Yellow Sea wakame salad. Our waitress accidentally knocked over our dumplings when she was walking by our table, and kindly brought us out a new order in a matter of minutes.

A tip when coming to Ayza, Tuesday night is ladies night and Sunday night is couples night. If you make a reservation on Opentable beforehand, they give you some free goodies with your meal! Also, if you “like” them on Facebook you can get a complimentary glass of wine. Click here for all their great promotions!
