Calle Ocho
I recently visited Calle Ocho for a ladies night celebration and had a blast! The decor, ambiance, music, and drinks are all the perfect setting for a night out on the town. I had heard a lot about Calle Ocho’s all you can drink sangria brunch on the weekends, but haven’t gotten the chance to visit yet. The food at dinner was good, but didn’t live up to my favorite Cuban/Latin American restaurant in the city, Cabana.

We started with the Hondureno Ceviche, which consists of sliced ahi tuna, coconut milk, pickled jalapenos and popcorn. The ceviche was delicious, and the popcorn was a unique touch that I have never seen before. Equally delicious was the De Pollo Crispy Chicken, served with a spicy vegetable salad and red and green chimichurri. We also tried the Tacos Al Pastor (pictured below), which came with marinated pork, pineapple, and soft tacos. The tacos were average and I would recommend skipping them to try something else.

For entrees, everyone ended up ordering the same two dishes - the Vaca Frita Al Caballo which consists of cuban skirt steak, latin fried rice, tomato escabeche, avocado, topped with a fried egg and the Lubina, a grilled sea bass dish with garlic, spinach, fennel, crispy potatoes and cumin vinaigrette. Both were a hit - no wonder everyone gravitated towards the same two menu items!

I’m looking forward to coming back and trying the brunch soon!
